Looking at the parched and cracked padi fields, bereft of every drop of water during one of those spells of dry weather so frequent in KEDAH, it is difficult to beleive that these same fields will be teeming with fish as soon as the rains come. How these fish and their eggs manage to survive the heat from the sun and the burning of hay ia a mystery. The kampung people beleive that they live in the damp and deep parts of the cracks and fissures that criss-cross the mudflats. This is quite plausible as the haruan and the keli are able to live a considerable length of time wheb tken out of the water.
